Quick Weight Loss Tip: Grocery Shopping.

If you've ever tried to buy "healthy" food at a grocery store, you probably know how confusing it can be. So, today's quick weight loss tip will go over some things to look for when shopping.

The first thing you'll probably notice is all the confusing food labels companies use nowadays. I'm sure you'll see plenty of items marked as healthy when they are really not. Natural foods will always be healthier than processed versions, so if you see a food label claiming something as better than the natural version, watch out.

All these processed foods claiming to be healthy, are really not that good for you. They are in the business of marketing, not health. They think that if they can convince people that the food is healthy, then people will buy it. Don't fall for it.

Let me give you a few examples.

You might see a product that claims to be better than peanut butter. Natural, healthy peanut butter is not that processed, so you can't make something "more" processed and expect it to be healthy. Natural organic peanut butter usually has two ingredients: peanuts and salt, and the salt is low.

With that, take a look at the so called "healthier" version and read the food label. My general rule of thumb is the more ingredients, the worse it is for you. Natural foods have a very short ingredient list most of the time. There will be exceptions of course, but most of the time it's pretty safe to assume less is better.

Watch out for "low fat" as well. Stripping natural healthy fats is bad for a number of reasons. What do they put in place of it? Natural fats help satisfy your appetite and control your blood sugar properly. Why take it out?

The fats are then replaced with dehydrated cane juice (sugar) or refined starches for more bad blood sugar spiking.

Another thing you might see is product claiming to be better than eggs. A regular, full egg is good for you, including the yolk. In fact, most of the good nutrients are found in the yolk, so don't be fooled by products containing "just" egg whites claiming to be better for you.

Good eggs are cage-free and organic. The cholesterol actually helps your "good" cholesterol. The fats in eggs are okay for you as well.

So, don't buy an egg product with a removed yolk, chemical colorings, flavorings, or artificially added vitamins. There's just no point.

Finally, you might also see products claiming to be better than butter. Avoid things like margarine claiming to be better than butter yet have highly processed and deadly trans fats.

Any butter, even low quality, is better than margarine. A common problem with butter might be pesticides and hormones from improperly raised cows. So, grass-fed or organic butter will always be your best bet. Natural butter contains CLA and can be useful to put on your vegetables. Natural butter contains oils that are great to cook with as well.

Well, that does it for today's quick weight loss tip. I hope you enjoy your grocery shopping now that you can make informed decisions.
